An Old Soul

Shabby Apple dress

LC Photography helped capture such a romantic feel in these photos. It's like I jumped back in time, waiting for my ride to somewhere that only exists in my dreams. Wouldn't it be fun to be able to spend a day in the past? Where would you want to go? I don't even think I could answer that question..I have too many time periods I love. I have often been called "an old soul." I love vintage and old music. In my free time I enjoy listening to old records or scrounging antique stores. Most of the movies I own are classics. I love small towns that preserve their original buildings. I enjoy chatting with people in their older years learning about all the different things they've seen in their lives. I definitely live in the now but I so enjoy learning about and preserving the past.

I love the quote by Dr. Seuss: "Sometimes you will never know the value of something, until it becomes a memory."  Everything we do or have in our lives eventually becomes a memory. I think I enjoy old things so much because at one point they were a part of someones life story and moved on to become a part of their memory. Part of their existence on the earth. I like to collect those things to keep that story going in a direction "I" get to take it. Make it a part of my own memories. Obviously they're just "things" and eventually don't matter in an eternal realm but while here we can appreciate what they are and once were. Look at it as a slice of the past preserved in the now.

Each day brings new lights and hopes...

H&M dress, JCrew top, Sam Edelman booties, vintage hat.

"Each day brings in new lights and hopes. Face each day with a courageous and faithful zeal.  Never lose your determination and focus in life, and you shall achieve greatness.  Each morning look up to the sun and scream out, 'It is my day today!'"

Urban Outfitters pants, JCrew tee (on sale!), thrifted converse tennies.

This look is perfect for a typical Saturday--running errands, shopping comfort, etc...Then you can add some heels, a red lip, maybe a cute chunky necklace, or a fun jacket for your evening out. This outfit is definitely nothing special but every piece is a good transitional basic item that you can wear in a million different ways. Best kind in my opinion.

Park Cafe

F21 dress, JCrew pants, thrifted shoes (Seychelles), thrifted Dooney and Bourke bag

I had a lovely lunch today with my good friend Karla. So nice to catch up and just have some girl time with her. We tried the Park Cafe over by Liberty Park. It was packed! They have yummy breakfast and lunch foods. I always love trying new places in my new city. And I especially love spending time with my closest friends. If anyone has any good recommendations of "must visit" places in the SLC area...I always love ideas!

The Light at Sunset

I have been looking for a cute "affordable" vintage inspired swimsuit alllll summer. Mostly I've wanted some high waisted bottoms but majority that I have found have just been too dang expensive! I was so excited to come across KortniJeane on etsy. Her high waisted bottoms are only $28 and super quality! Plus it made me happy to see she was a local. Lives just 40 minutes from me. Her pattern selection is soooo fun! I think mixing and matching the prints makes these swimmers even more adorable and makes them unique to you.  I'm already putting a few from her shop on my wishlist for next year.

It sure was delightful watching to sun go down while having these photos taken by Lindsay and Crystal. There is just something so special about how the light hits the water and how everything is suddenly for a short time turned an orangy glow. It's these little things I'm continuously grateful for.
Anyone else feeling like "how in the heck is it the end of August?" Summer is not over. It's not. Swimsuits and sandals, shorts and tee's...All still permitted. I'm in no hurry for it to be over. So don't rush it ok? :)

Adventures on Lake Almanor

I just had the most amazing long weekend! Spent in beautiful Northern California on Lake Almanor with good friends....This is my third time up there the past few years and I can easily say it's one of my favorite places I've ever been to. We filled our days with so many activities! Running, wake surfing, wakeboarding, swimming, laying out, walks, jet skiing, a little tennis, kayaking, singing, lots of food, lots of laughs, dancing, relaxing, and just a lot of fun! Photos don't do justice but it's always fun to share.

^^I figured out surfing without holding onto the rope! Wohoo... My friends thought it would be funny, while I'm trying to master the art, to fake surf tackle while I'm out there. You can tell how thrilled I was about that by the look on my face..haha...Vern said "they made me do it!" yeah yeah...

^^On our last night we took a walk and enjoyed the lovely California sunset.

We nicknamed these poses and our adventures earlier in the day Poca-gawea...(kayaking and singing may have been involved.) I was considered the navigator and McCall was just the legit cool adventurer. We may be in our late 20's, but our little girlish sides tend to come out in cool places such as these.

Today I feel like I'm recovering a little...some sore muscles, a little sunburn, and a couple bruises...haha. But...I'm not gonna lie...I wish I was still looking at these views in person. Such a wonderful getaway where numerous times I smiled just for no reason because I felt pure bliss. Lots of thanks to my friend McCall whom I've been able to enjoy many life adventures with over the past decade. I am always grateful for our friendship.

PS The Albion Fit $50 giftcard giveaway winner was picked! Make sure you check the post HERE to see if it was you. Thanks to all those who participated. I enjoyed receiving your emails and positive feedback.

On Vacation

"On vacation..." said in the best Forrest Gump accent. Yep...I'm goin on vacation for a few days and I could not be more excited. California. Lake house. Sunshine. Need I say more...?

Yes this is a muumuu I found at a thrift store last year. It has sadly sat in my closet since then...Until I braved bringing it out randomly last week. Secretly (but not so secretly now) I just want to wear one all day everyday! Somehow I feel like it might be a total man-repeller...but, but, but...Gosh is it comfy. Especially in the summer heat. So light and airy. I guess I gotta say I recommend every woman should own at least ONE!

Getting in Shape with Albion Fit + A Giveaway!

You may or may not know that back in 2008 I decided to serve a mission for the LDS Church. At the time I was a personal trainer and in the best shape of my life. I would train for and run 2 marathons a year, I was participating in boot camp classes and also teaching them every Saturday with a group of friends, doing yoga, lifting weights regularly, dancing, etc. So from 2009-2010 for 18 months I served down in Brazil as a missionary. It was the most amazing time of my life! I could go on and on about how much I loved it. It definitely did take a tole on my body as I'm sure most missionaries can relate.

You lose yourself so much in the marvelous work you're doing, you literally forget yourself. I still worked out while I was there and we walked everywhere but it was not as vigorous and as for my diet we ate what was given to us...Grateful as you can possibly imagine for that. I didn't technically gain "weight" while I was there, my weight stayed the same.... but I lost all my muscle and my clothes fit very different.

When I got home, I lost about 15 lbs. over the course of 6 months. I didn't really do anything to lose that weight just kinda happens when you can now decide what you're eating and when you're eating haha. I did a couple 5k's, would run on occasion, did a little zumba but I was finding it difficult to really kick it in gear and get back to where I was! Sometimes I would go weeks without working out and I hated that! I kinda felt worn out. I couldn't ever really get into a routine. So.... The beginning of this summer (mind you, this is 4 years later!) I kinda put my foot down.

With a lot of changes that have happened this year with moving and trying to figure out the next chapter of my life, I decided I wanted to really focus on being well rounded in all aspects of my life. Focus on being more spiritual, still continue to build my relationships with my family, be able to support myself comfortably, prioritize, use my time wisely, and feel better physically! So my bestie McCall and I decided to sign up for a half marathon in June. I started running a few times a week. It was hard! Really hard.

To shorten this boring story...The half marathon went well. I didn't feel nearly prepared for it, but it felt so good to finish that race and feel my motivation rising to continue improving on what I had started to rebuild! I continued running after that more and more, thankfully gained an awesome running buddy (I highly recommend having a friend to schedule regular exercise times with.) I am now running faster, feeling stronger, and again feeling that motivation that I had before my mission that I didn't feel would ever come back! Now that I'm at this point, I don't want to lose it...So without fail I am working out 4-5 times a week. Three 4-5 mile runs also started doing a Cardio Barre class. I love the contrast. Barre is very low impact but my muscles feel like jello by the time we leave. Feels good to feel good. I'm not saying I'm perfect and have reached the finale...Some days I think I just don't wanna!

But I'm now to a point where I don't let myself have a choice. I have conquered that dreaded hump that always seems impossible to get over. My point to all this is, if you feel like you can't...You can. Make a goal and just start! Don't start tomorrow, start today. And push yourself beyond what you think you can do. Have faith in yourself. These are things that have helped me a lot.

I'm excited to celebrate my fitness journey with Albion Fit. I have been wanting to add new workout gear to my wardrobe mostly because mine is very few and far between and totally worn out or outdated. I prefer clothes that I don't need to even worry about adjusting while I work out. I'm wearing their Petal Pants and have been nothing but happy with how they fit and how they stay in place as I work out. So comfy and flattering. Another pair is definitely on my wishlist!
