Reluctantly leaving Marrakech hehe, we excitedly headed THROUGH the desert to Fez. We booked a private desert tour through Rough Tours. It was a slurge but because this was a once in a lifetime thing for us, we wanted to do it right. We had our own, English speaking tour guide the entire trip and enjoyed every single moment.

First they picked us up from our Riad and we headed out! We began going through the Dades valley. Went through Tizi-n-Tishka in the High Atlas Mountains. We went to Ait Ben Haddou village which is where a lot of movies have been filmed. (Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator, and Alexander. We had lunch there then continued through beautiful landscapes and Berber villages. We ended our first day staying in a super nice hotel at the top of a small town called Boumalene Dades.
Day two we headed from Boumalene Dades to Merzouga. Through Berber village Tinghir we visited Todra Gorge which was amazing. We got to see some local fields with fresh foods. We got to try some delicious Berber pizza as we drove through some Berber villages and I will admit, after that I craved Berber Pizza forever haha. We made our way to Merzouga to go do one thing we had looked forward to the whole trip-Ride camels and camp in the desert! We left our luggage at a local hotel and headed out on our hump back friends through the Sahara desert. That took us about one and a half hours to get to our camp. We watched the sunset and had the most delicious homemade dinner then sat around the fire and listened to Berber music, drums, and we danced! We had the most joyous time. I'm literally grinning like a weirdo right now thinking about it as I write.
Day three and the last day of our desert tour. We woke up before sunrise to see the sunrise over the Sahara. So we got to watch the beautiful sunset then the sunrise. We rode back on our camel friends and got to freshen up at the hotel and had breakfast. Then on our way to Fez. We went through Arfoud, Errachidia, Ziz Valley, Meditlt, Cedar Forests where we saw MONKEYS! We got to feed them and yes they got so friendly I eventually had one climbing up my leg. haha. Stopped for lunch along the way, then went to "Little Switzerland" which made us feel like we were back in Europe. Early evening we arrived at Fez where our driver dropped us off at our Riad. It was a whirlwind three days that were full of culture, nature, and beauty.
Fez will be saved for another day....

xoxo
